ELS exam results - Term 2

March 30th saw the release of the ELS examination results. This term, we only had PET students. Out of fourteen students, eight passed and the other six all improved. Well done to everyone! Here's a video showing student reactions to their scores.

Peer teaching in progress

Research has shown that students learn effectively from 'more capable peers' (Vygotsky, 1978, p. 86). This philosophy was used very effectively by Mr Berry in his Year 7 and 8 PET class, where the Year 8 students taught their Year 7 peers how to answer Part 5 of the PET Reading and Writing examination. The picture below shows the students in action.

iGCSE ESL oral examinations over for another year!

After a tough three days of testing, the iGCSE ESL (English as a Second Language) oral examinations are over for another year! Students from Year 11 Sets 2 and 3 and Year 9 Set 1 sat the examinations, which this year were performed by Mr Berry and Mr Dowling. All students did really well, which is a testimony to the hard work put in by both students and teachers (Ms Smith as well). Well done to everyone!

Butter wouldn't melt in their mouths!

The bread and butter of the ELS department, that is the Year 10 and Year 11 ESL students, tried their hand at butter scultping. Perhaps the results can be used to butter up their teachers! Anyway, they now all have an excuse when they perform badly in PE..."Sorry Ms Longstaffe. I have butter fingers!"

Top homework!

One of our Year 7 PET students did a fantastic job with her Ben Nevis homework. Here she is displaying the work and the wonderful box of chocolates as the well-deserved reward.

Anyone for Focaccia?

Here are the Year 9 PET students learning through doing. They learnt lots of new words, for example, coarse, sprinkle, mature and knead, while turning out some delicious focaccia.
